NVIDIA DLSS 5 Successfully Ported to RTX 40 Series

The leaked files come from the Early Access version of NBA 2K27 and contain new files used to enable neural rendering features. The RenoDX Discord community has currently become the primary hub for discussion and development related to this porting effort, with developers using ReShade and RenoDX to load these files and activate neural rendering in other games.

However, the current leaked version has clear hardware limitations; the original nvngx_dlssnr.dll only runs on RTX 50 series graphics cards based on the Blackwell architecture. Notably, the AI model used employs the FP8 data format, and the Ada Lovelace architecture itself is capable of reading and executing FP8, meaning the hardware architecture is not the sole limiting factor.

According to TechPowerUp, the issue primarily lies in certain CUDA binary codes that can only be executed by Blackwell GPUs. Since these binaries were not adapted for the previous generation architecture, the original DLL cannot run directly on RTX 40 series graphics cards.

Subsequently, RTX Remix mod author "Uncle Burrito" modified the DLL file by identifying the CUDA binaries incompatible with Ada Lovelace and replacing them with versions that can run on the Ada architecture, allowing DLSS 5 to function.

Uncle Burrito stated that his main task was inspecting the binaries actually called by the DLL, finding the parts incompatible with the Ada architecture, and manually replacing them with new compatible versions. He believes that the nvngx_dlssnr.dll in NBA 2K27 likely belongs to an early build, suggesting that corresponding binaries for Ada Lovelace may not have been compiled at the time.

Later, Tom's Hardware verified the patch using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 and confirmed that the modified version runs on Ada Lovelace hardware. Currently, other developers in the RenoDX Discord community have also begun creating additional patched versions.

At present, it remains uncertain whether NVIDIA will officially provide DLSS 5 support for non-Blackwell GPUs. However, modders have already proven that existing DLSS 5 files can run on RTX 40 series graphics cards after adaptation.

Note: For RTX 30 series Ampere and earlier architecture GPUs, the porting difficulty may be higher, as these GPUs do not natively support FP8.
